1. Collars for dogs used to be simply to serve a purpose. They were something to hold onto, clip a leash on or to hold the dog tags. Anything would do, including an old belt cut down to size. Not so anymore as our dogs sport all kinds of high fashioned collars.

Pet owners choose collars for their pets as carefully as they choose their own wardrobe. In fact, some pet owners adorn their pets in collars that color coordinate with their own outfit. Does your dog have a wide selection of collars that you can mix and match to suit your mood, your holiday, or even your favorite sport?

Little girl dogs will feel all pretty and pampered in pink collars with a little bling on them. A big strapping male dog wants a “manly” collar to show off to his friends. What about those holidays? You probably have holiday clothing that you wear. Your dog can also be decked out in holiday décor with a fancy collar.

Color-coordinate the dog’s leash to match the collar he is wearing, or try two different colors to make a bold statement on your walks. With our affordable prices, there is no reason why you shouldn’t have a selection of collars and leashes for your dog. People have many different styles of accessories. Why shouldn’t our pets?

Take your little diva dog around town with the latest spring colors fastened around her neck and watch her prance and dance. Check out our selection of pretty, or manly, unique dog collars and start letting your dog express his or herself.

  2. Many couples who marry include children from previous relationships in the ceremony. It helps the kids feel part of the special day and also solidifies the new family unit. Pet lovers are taking the idea to new heights by including their dogs in the ceremony too.

Junior brides and grooms are usually small children, but who’s to say that your dog and your partner’s dog can’t fill this function and be included in your special day? Imagine how cute the two dogs will be walking down the aisle with her in a tiny little doggie wedding gown and him sporting a tuxedo, complete with tails.

If the dogs are of the same gender, consider letting them both be ring bears or flower girls. Dress the girls in a formal dress that proudly proclaims “flower girl” on it. If the dog is big enough, you can even teach them to carry a small flower basket down the aisle.

If both of your dogs are boys, dress them up in doggie tuxedos and tie a heart shaped satin pillow around their neck so that they can bring the wedding rings down the aisle. You can easily attach ties to a ring bearer’s pillow, or you can have one custom made in the shape of a bone.

If you are not sure that the dogs will walk down the aisle without getting distracted, purchase a glitzy leash that matches their formal wear. They can then be led down the aisle by a bridesmaid, or your little junior bride dog can lead you down the aisle and “give you away.”

  3. Let’s face it, some dogs just do not like to wear clothes and trying to get them into outfits and keep them looking nice is just too much trouble. So what do you do when you want to take your dog to a formal event, yet you don’t want the aggravation of getting him all dressed up?

First, talk to your groomer and see if she can give your dog a sensational grooming, just before the event. Long haired dogs lend well to “poufy” adorable hairstyles for special occasions. Dogs with really long hair can sport braids with ribbons braided in.

Once you have that settled, choose a glitzy collar with sparkling jewels for the girls and a manly black color for the boy dogs. Let the dog wear the collar in advance of the event so that he or she will get used to it. The dog shouldn’t protest too much as they are used to collars coming on and off for baths and grooming.

Next, check out Doggie Clotheslines selection of fancy bows that clip right onto the dog’s collar. Our White Crystal & Feather Collar Clip bow will make your dog look dressy and stylish for even the most formal event. You’ll be happy and doggie won’t even protest about being all dressed up.

For a male dog who prefers to be “naked” you can attach one of our many stylish bow ties to his collar. You can coordinate the color of the bow tie to match the event, or your own outfit, so that you both will look great. It is pretty simple to “dress” a dog to look sensational, even while he is “naked.”

  4. So, Fido’s old pet bed looked a little ragged and you bought him a new one, but he refuses to go near it. Sound familiar? Dog’s tend to get used to something and do not care much for change. Small dogs may even be afraid of something new and different that is now where their old familiar bed used to be.

If you still have the old pet bed, try to tuck it inside the new bed. This way your dog still has his old bed and the new one is acquiring scents he is used to. If you already tossed the old bed, put some of your dog’s toys into the new bed and see if he will climb in to get them. If the dog is still not interested put his favorite blanket in the bed. He may drag it out and away. Keep putting it back.

Before you give up and give her back the old bed, try putting one of your old shirts in the new dog bed. Don’t use a freshly laundered one. It should be something you have worn, so it smells like you. Dig through the hamper, or change out of the one you are wearing and put it in the new dog bed.

Dogs are comforted by scents they are familiar with. Have you ever noticed your dog curled up on one of your shirts that didn’t quite make it into the laundry basket? Chances are if you let him borrow your shirt for a while he will become more comfortable with the new bed.

Check out our personalized dog beds. You can add your dog's name to the bed for a special touch.

  5. Dogs being a part of a wedding ceremony has become quite popular these days. Since most pet owners consider their pet part of the family, it makes sense to include them in a wedding. Other family members may even request that your dog be part of their ceremony. Perhaps they have a female dog and want your male dog to escort her down the aisle.
We have one of the largest selections of wedding apparel for dogs on the internet.

It can be fun making all of the arrangements to include your dog in a wedding ceremony. He or she should get to experience all of the pampering and fancy attire as the rest of the wedding party. Outfitting your dog to make a stylish walk down the aisle is with the selection of fancy attire you can purchase for them. We offer fancy dresses, tuxedos, glitzy collars and leashes and lots of pretty bows.

Pamper your dog the day before the ceremony by taking him or her to the groomer. Let them know that he will be in a wedding and they make him look absolutely stunning. Wait to dress your dog in his wedding attire until minutes before the ceremony. She is a dog, after all, and may be tempted to sit, lay or roll around, especially if you are outdoors.

Take the dog for a walk to burn off some energy and encourage the dog to potty. You don’t want an accident while walking down the aisle! When they are ready for his entrance, send him down the aisle with pride!

  6. Pets become accustomed to knowing what their feeding bowl looks like. This is especially true if you have more than one pet. Each one knows whose bowl you are holding when you go to sit them down. Your pet may panic when you try to give them a brand new dish and may not realize it is okay for them to use.

Don’t let that stop you from getting your pets new dishes because there are subtle little ways you can coax them into trying out the new feeding bowl. Wait until dinner time to introduce a new feeding bowl. Your pet will be hungry and more apt to be interested in what’s in the bowl, instead of focusing on the fact that it is not his bowl.

Another good idea is to make sure the first feeding in a new bowl is one of your pet’s favorite foods. Sit the new bowl down in the regular feeding spot and coax the pet over to you. If he comes running and looks at the bowl and then up at you he may be asking permission. Assure him or her that it is okay to eat from the new bowl.

If your pet is stubborn or afraid to use the new bowl, give him back his old dish for the night so that he doesn’t go hungry. If you usually hand out evening snacks, put them in the new bowl and get your pet to take them from the bowl instead of your hand.

Check out our custom dog bowls, painted in a whimsical design to look like your dog!

  7. Traveling with a pet can be a fun adventure. It can also be stressful if you don’t have vital information with you. You have a pet carrier, or dog harness to keep your pet safe and secure, right? You’ve also packed her dishes, favorite food, toys and any medication she might be taking.

Unfortunately, accidents happen, dogs get stolen, or they get very sick, even on vacation. Do you have the vital information you would need to help your pet if she got sick or lost while you were on vacation? Grab a large manila envelope and start filling it with these items:

    1. A recent clear picture of the dog. Make photo copies and place several in the envelope.

    2. Write out a description of your dog and describe any special markings or quirks the dog has.

    3. Write down any medical history, your vet’s number and the dog’s microchip number.

    4. Write out a list of alternative contact numbers in case you become ill or injured while on vacation. Accidents happen and someone will need to come and care for the dog.

Making a pet identification packet doesn’t take long at all and it will insure you have what you need if your dog becomes ill, gets lost or is stolen while you are on vacation. Being able to quickly hand out a photo and description, or having all of your vet information to hand to another vet will save you time and stress.

  8. Would you like to glitz your dog up but don’t want the added expense of regular grooming fees? You can clip bows on their ears, their collars or you can create a stunning pony tail on top of their head.

Typically, a Shih Tzu is the dog that sports the flowing top knot and cute little bows, but any long haired dog can make a fashion statement with a cute or glittery bow. You can even choose a bow that portrays the dog’s personality, a holiday or even an activity you are involved in.

To fashion a simple top knot pony tail, you will need a wide toothed comb, some tiny elastic band pony tail holders and your choice of one of our many stylish bows. Sit your dog down facing away from you, either on the floor for a bigger dog, or on your lap for a smaller dog.

Use the comb to draw a line from the back of the dog’s ear, to the top of the head. Comb the hair up from the brow line and gather it in your hand. Secure it with the tiny elastic pony tail holder at the very top of the head and comb through the longer hair, just like you do a ponytail.

Just add one of our stylish doggie hair bows and your pup is all glammed and glitzed! The bows are easy to add as they come in a selection of alligator clips or French barrette clips.

  9. Certain large breed dogs are happiest when they believe they are working or helping out their pack leader. If you are an avid hiker and often take your dog, you can outfit him with a Kurgo Wander Dog Backpack to carry on your next outing.

Backpacks help keep the dog’s mind on the job at hand and they will be less likely to run off exploring in an area you are not familiar with. He will happily walk by your side and this can make your hiking experience much more enjoyable.

Your dog will see you with your back pack and knowing he has his very own will make him feel like he is part of the working pack. He will enjoy helping you in whatever task you have at hand, even if it is just trekking around on a hiking trail. He can carry his own food and water and this helps to lighten your load as well.

If you are just going down to the local store, your dog will also enjoy helping to carry home the groceries, or even his own dog treats. Letting him help will improve his walking and will keep him centered on staying by your side.

If your cute little pup is a girl, choose a pink or red dress to match the holiday theme colors and a style that shows off her unique personality. If you have a boy dog, you can choose a tux or necktie to help celebrate the occasion.

After you get him or her all dressed up, have your pet help deliver your special gift to the one you love. Imagine how excited they will be to get your gift of love in such a fun and creative way.

  11. Dog owners everywhere take their pets with them almost everywhere they go. It’s not uncommon to see dogs in weddings or at holiday parties all dressed up in special clothing that shows off their unique personalities. It’s fun to take your pet with you but it’s even more exciting when they’re wearing something that receives lots of attention.

She’ll be the center of attention and everyone will be talking about how wonderful and classy she looks. These leads and collars are gorgeous and they’ll look great on any dog breed.

In addition to being gorgeous, they’re also very strong and durable. This makes them practical for any occasion, so they’re not just for special events.

Your dog will be the envy of park and you’ll feel a sense of pride as he prances around on the end of the lead turning heads everywhere you go. People will stop you just to ask you about your dog’s stunning leash and collar. Both you and your pet will love the attention and they make great gifts too!

  12. Is your little dog staying warm enough on these cold winter nights? It can get very chilly when the sun goes down especially for small dogs that tend to get colder than larger breeds do. Even if you think it’s very comfortable in your home, your dog can still get cold. You can make sure they your pet is happy and comfortable by giving him a fleece dog sleeping bag to cuddle up in.

Little dogs like to crawl up in blankets and clothing to stay warm and because it makes them feel safe. A fleece sleeping bag is the perfect thing for this because they’re made especially for small breeds. They’re closed on three sides and lined with fleece on the inside creating a soft, comfy place for your dog to cuddle and stay warm.

The three-sided design creates a safe haven for your pet where she can go to get warm anytime she feels cold or even a little chilly. It also makes the sleeping bags safer for your dog because you won’t have to worry about her getting tangled up in one like she can do when sleeping with a blanket.

Fleece dog sleeping bags come in a variety of designs so they look great in addition to being lightweight and easy to clean. All you have to do is throw them in the washer and dryer and they’ll come out looking like new. This makes it easy to keep your little dogs sleeping area clean and fresh all the time.

Don’t let your pet shake and shiver all night. Pick up a fleece dog sleeping bag for your little dog today so he can stay warm and cozy. You may want to pick up a few extras for your friends and family, too because they make excellent gifts.

  13. Sometimes, when we have to go away for long periods, it becomes necessary to hire a dog sitter. While the sitter is fully trained in providing professional care for your dog, you can ensure that everything goes smoothly by preparing your home and making sure everything is available for the sitter that he will need.

Here’s how to prepare your home for a dog sitter:

    * Provide your dog with plenty of food and water and have it in a convenient location where the sitter can refill easily and place his food and treats in an easy-to-find place.

    * Check her collar to make sure it’s snug and in good condition. You don’t want your pet getting loose and running away during walks.

    * Place the leash and, if needed, the poop bags near the door.

    * If you don’t have a doggie door leading into a safe outside area, confine your pet to one room. This way, the sitter won’t have to search for your dog or clean up multiple rooms if he goes long periods between visits.

    * Provide cleaning supplies and towels for the sitter to use for cleaning up after your dog.

    * If your dog takes medication, leave it on the counter along with a note explaining how much to give your dog and when.

    * Provide emergency information and instructions letting the sitter know where to take your pet in case of an emergency.

    * Leave your contact information so the sitter can reach you in case they have questions or an emergency does arise.

    * Secure your home to make sure it’s safe for your pet and the dog sitter.

Make sure the temperature in your home is within a safe range before you leave and that the sitter has access to your home. Talk to your veterinarian to let him know you will be out of town and that you have a dog sitter so there won’t be any delays in case there is an emergency.

  14. Dogs, just like humans, can choke on food or some type of foreign object and when this happens, he will depend on you for help. Seeing your pet choking is very scary but it’s vital that you do not panic. If you panic, you won’t be able to help your pet at all. So stay calm and use these emergency first aid choking tips for dogs to dislodge the object.

Open her mouth, pull her tongue out of the way and run your finger through her mouth to try to find and dislodge the object. If you think your dog might bite, have someone help hold open her mouth or wrap a thick towel around your hand and wrist to help cushion the bite if she tries. If you can reach the object, pull it out right away.

If you cannot find or dislodge the foreign object and your dog is small enough, lift him up and put his spine up against your chest. Put both hands under his waist and behind the ribs and make a fist. Place your fist behind his last rib and begin administering abdominal thrusts by pushing upward and inward five times quickly. Check to see if you can pull the object out now.

If that did not work, turn your dog upside down holding her in front of the hips to see if that dislodges it. If not, sit or stand holding your dog while using your hand to administer five sharp blows between her shoulder blades. If you still cannot remove the object, repeat these steps until it dislodges enough to pull out.

If your dog is too large to pick up, position yourself so you can perform these steps while he is standing or lying on the floor if he is unconscious. As soon as the object is dislodged, stop the abdomen thrusts, make sure his airway is clear and perform CPR if necessary. Be sure to have your dog checked out by your vet even if he appears to be doing fine, just to be on the safe side.

  15. While owning a dog sitting business can be very rewarding and lots of fun, there are times when things don’t go as smoothly as you would like. Occasionally, you will run into a client that is hard to get along with. The way you deal with these clients will have a major effect on the reputation of your business, so it’s vital that you learn how to deal with them professionally.

Here are 3 tips for dealing with difficult dog sitting clients:

    1. Try to resolve the issues- Sit down with your client and talk to them dog lover to dog lover. Let them know that you will do everything you can, within reason, to resolve the issues but first, you need to know exactly what the problem is. What is making them so upset? What could you do differently to make them happy? You need to know why the client is unhappy in order to fix the problems.

    2. Be willing to compromise- In some situations, you may need to compromise a little to make your client happy. Of course, this will depend on what they are asking of you and whether or not there is a good reason for it. There may be a good reason why the client is being so demanding and once you understand what it is, it may make perfect sense.

    3. End the arrangement- When you and your client cannot come to any agreement that you both are happy with, then it’s time to end the arrangement. You have to accept the fact that you just can’t please everyone all the time.

Anytime you’re dealing with a difficult client, it’s vital that you remain professional at all times. Don’t let your emotions get the better of you. This is your business and you have a reputation to protect. Therefore, you must stay calm, professional and use these tips to help you deal with difficult dog sitting clients.

  16. Does your dog bark excessively when you’re away at work or running errands? Does he chew on your shoes and furniture or does he use the bathroom all over the house when you’re gone? Does he scratch at the door until he makes his paws sore or whine and whimper when you leave? If you said yes to any of these questions, your dog may be suffering from separation anxiety.

Dogs don’t have the same sense of time as humans do. When you’re gone all day at work, it may seem like days to your pet. She gets lonely and misses you and in some cases, she may even begin to think that you’re not coming back. Separation anxiety can happen at any age and it’s usually the result of some type of trauma like moving to a new home. Dogs belonging to singles are more likely to be affected by this condition than those living with families.

You can’t cure separation anxiety but you can treat it. The key is to help your pet understand that you will always come back. One way to do this is by leaving your dog for a few minutes and then returning home. Extend the length of time you’re gone each time you leave to help your pet gradually get used to the idea of you being away from him.

Other options include giving her something with your scent on it and toys to keep her occupied while you’re gone. You also want to provide her with a safe haven such as a crate where she can go to feel safe until you return. If your dog is suffering from separation anxiety and these tactics don’t help, consider seeking professional help for your dog.

  17. With Christmas right around the corner, many dog owners are looking for gifts for their loyal four-legged companion and dog chew toys are one of the top selling items. Dogs have a natural instinct to chew and these toys give them something safe and healthy to chew on. Without them, dogs tend to chew more on furniture, clothes, shoes and other items that could be harmful to them and annoying to you. Here are a few tips for choosing the best dog chew toys for your pet.

    Is It Safe?

Only choose quality chew toys so it won’t fall apart immediately and don’t buy anything with strings, buttons or any other parts that could come off easily. Your dog could swallow these pieces causing a number of different medical problems. These small pieces could also pose a choking problem if they lodge in your dog’s throat.

    What’s It Made Of

The type of material used for the chew toy matters. If the material is too soft, it won’t last very long especially if your dog is an aggressive chewer. On the other hand, if the material is too hard, it can damage your dog’s teeth. Chew toys made from natural, non-toxic rubber are an excellent choice such as the Kong Classic Ball.

    Size Matters

It’s vital that you buy the right size toy or your pet won’t benefit. If it’s too big, he won’t be able to get it in his mouth and if it’s too small, it could pose a choking hazard. Read the warnings on the toys and get something to match your pet’s size.

Toys designed specifically for chewing helps to promote healthy gums and teeth in addition to alleviating boredom. Pick up several different types for your pet so he can switch around and use these tips to help you find the best dog chew toys for your pet.

  18. Dog slings help to keep your small dog safe when you go for walks, to the park, shopping or anywhere else you like to take your pet with you. One of the reasons many people choose small dogs is because you can take them with you just about everywhere you go but since they are so small, they need your help keeping them safe.

Dog slings are designed to loop over your shoulder and they hang down to your waist. The bottom of the sling is wide enough for your pet to lie down comfortably. When you’re walking in an area where there is a lot of traffic, you can pick your dog up and put him in the sling away from everyone else’s feet where he could get hurt.

Small dogs will get tired much faster than you do. When she begins to get tired of walking, you can put her in the sling and continue about your business. She can sleep or poke her head out and look around while she rests. This prevents her from becoming exhausted while you enjoy your day together. They make your pet feel safe, too because they are close to you and you can reach in anytime and rub or pet your dog.

They’re also comfortable for you because the unique design leaves both of your hands free. This makes it easy to shop, open doors, talk on the phone or do anything else you want to. Small dogs are a lot of company and lots of fun but the most important thing is to keep your pet safe when you’re out in public and a dog sling can help you do that.

  19. Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for all the wonderful things in your life, including your dog. Sometimes, we take our pets for granted. He’s always there to meet you at the door when you come home. He sits by your feet when you’re relaxing and he’s always ready to play anytime day or night. Dogs are wonderful companions that give you all their love unconditionally and that alone is enough reason to be thankful for your pet but there’s more.

Your dog helps to keep you healthy by encouraging you to exercise. Even if you don’t feel like going for a walk, you have to take her out and who can resist playing ball when she brings it to you and sits there patiently waiting for your response.

Dogs can teach you how to get the most out of your life if you’re willing to learn. For example, dogs don’t get mad and hold a grudge if you make a mistake. They don’t care about your past or worry about the future. They don’t care what you look like or what kind of car you drive. Dogs care about the simple things in life like being loved and showing love. If we followed that example, people would be a lot happier.

Lastly, dogs help to relieve stress and ease depression. Playing with and even walking your dog can help to lower your blood pressure and make you feel good all over. Dogs are playful and fun and you can’t help but smile when you see them. When you’re sitting around eating turkey dinner this year with your family and friends, don’t forget to say thanks for the wonderful dog in your life.

  20. How much do you know about obesity in dogs? Throughout the years, dogs have become more like children than pets and unfortunately, they tend to have many of the same problems that humans do. As a result, obesity in dogs is on the rise. Many dog owners think their pets are healthy, when in fact they may be in danger of being obese. Is your pet overweight?

Here are a few signs your dog may have a weight problem:

    • Can you feel the outline of your dog’s ribs when you put your hand on her ribcage? You should be able to.
    • Does your dog waddle instead of walk? This is when it looks like he is rolling from one side to the other instead of walking straight.
    • When you look at your dog from a side view, does her stomach look like it’s sticking outward or is it pushed upward? It should be pulled up not sticking out.
    • Does your pet seem lethargic or give out much faster than he should when exercising for his age and size? Most healthy dogs love to run and play, not lie around.
    • Does she have a clear, defined waistline? If not, then she is probably eating more than she should.
    • Does he have trouble breathing or do you hear him making strange wheezing noises? Being overweight can cause these problems.

It can be difficult to tell if your dog is overweight because you see her all the time. The weight gain can be subtle and then one day you realize she is much heavier than she used to be. When your dog is obese, it creates a number of other health problems just like it does in humans. Monitor your pet’s eating habits and make sure she gets plenty of exercise.

  21. Adopting a puppy is a big responsibility. He will depend on you to be there and take care of him for the rest of his life. Are you truly ready for that kind of commitment? If you’re not sure, you may want to take a little more time to think about it. When you know that your family is ready for a puppy, you’ll need to decide which dog breed to adopt.

Tips for choosing the right breed when adopting a puppy:

    • Learn about the different breeds of dogs and look for one that matches your lifestyle. For example, are you very athletic and are you searching for a dog that can jog with you and take long walks? In this case, a large breed would suit your lifestyle better than a small breed.
    • Do you have small children in the home? If so, you need a breed with a calm personality and one that is known for getting along well with small kids.
    • How much time do you have to spend with your puppy? Some breeds get very lonely and can become very emotional if left alone for too long at a time.
    • How much time and money do you plan to put towards grooming your puppy? Some dogs are low maintenance but some breeds need to be groomed regularly and it could get expensive after awhile.
    • Where will your puppy stay, inside or outside? If she stays inside, how much room will she have to move around? This will help you decide if a small breed dog would be better suited than a large breed.

Use these tips to help you find the right breed puppy for your family and both of you will be much happier. This is a long-time commitment, so make sure you choose wisely.

  22. Arthritis is a painful disease that affects both humans and dogs. As your pet ages, you may notice him having a hard time walking when he first wakes up from a nap or he may move a little slower than he used to. These are some of the first signs dogs with arthritis show because their joints and muscles are starting to stiffen up.

If your dog is suffering from arthritis, you may also notice that she is sleeping more than she used to or that she is having trouble sitting down or standing up from a sitting position. Her attitude and behavior may change, she may favor a specific limb or she may not be as alert as she used to be. Some dogs will gain weight because they don't exercise as much due to the pain in their joints.

Once your veterinarian has diagnosed your dog with arthritis, here are a few things you can do to help make him more comfortable:

Give her pain relievers - Medication can help her feel better so she can continue doing some of the things she loves so much but talk to your veterinarian before giving her anything. He can recommend a pain reliever for your dog to help her deal with the aches and pains associated with this condition.

Exercise your dog - While your dog may not be able to run and jump like he used to, he still needs to exercise regularly to help with the stiffness. Take a leisurely walk around the block or play ball with your pet. Anything you can do to help keep him move around will help but don't push him too hard.

Feed your pet nutritious meals - This will help keep your dog fit and in shape, which will make it easier for her to get around. Being overweight will put more stress on her joints causing more pain.

Make food and water easy to reach - Don't make your dog stretch up or bend over to eat or drink any more than necessary. 23. You made the decision to bring a new puppy into your home and now you have to decide how you plan to train him. Crate training your new puppy is one option that you have. Much controversy surrounds the concept of training your pet using a crate. Some dog lovers say it's a great idea that really works well, while others think it's cruel to put your pet in a crate.

What do you think about it? Is crate training your puppy cruel or is it a great idea? The answer depends on how you do it. There is a right way and a wrong way. If you do it the right way, it can be very beneficial to you and make a nice little get-a-way for your pet.

Crate Training Benefits You and Your Puppy

Using a crate to train your puppy has many benefits for both of you. Sometimes, it's not appropriate for your pet to roam around the house freely. It can be very dangerous. When you leave your puppy in the house unsupervised, she can get hurt on many things. For example, she might get into the trash and eat something that makes her ill or she could hurt herself trying to jump up and down on the furniture.

By using a crate, you don't have to worry about what he's doing when you're gone and during the night when you're sleeping because he'll have a safe place to stay. It also keeps your puppy from chewing up the furniture, clothes, shoes and anything else he can get his mouth on while you're away.

Some dog owners use crates to housebreak their puppies because dogs won't normally use the bathroom where they stay. You can take him to the bathroom before you put him in the crate and as soon as you let him out again. It will keep him from messing in the floor and eventually, he'll learn to go out to do his business.

    When Crate Training Becomes Cruel

When done correctly, using a crate to train your puppy is an excellent tool that can help keep your home running smoothly but when done incorrectly, it becomes cruel and inhumane. Never, ever leave your puppy in the crate for long periods. Leaving her in the crate for an extended amount of time will make her fear it, not embrace it. In addition, she needs to stretch her legs and exercise.

Never lock your puppy in the crate as a punishment for doing something wrong. This causes your pet to have negative feelings that will make him reject it and view the crate as a bad place. Using a crate that is too small for your dog is also cruel. He should be able to stand completely up on all four legs and turn around easily to be comfortable.

Why Crates are a Great Training Tool

When you understand what crate training is and why it's used, you'll see why it really is a great training tool. All dogs, regardless of the breed, need a place they can call their own. It needs to be a place where they feel safe and secure.

Dogs have a natural instinct that makes them crave an area that resembles a den or lair. The crate can become your dog's lair where she feels safe and secure. She'll go to it by instinct when she's tired, stressed or just wants to be alone.

If you've never crate trained a puppy before, learn how to do it correctly before you start. It will mean the difference between being cruel and giving your puppy a place where he'll enjoy spending his time. When you do crate training correctly, your puppy will willingly go into the crate when you need him to and he'll have that safe haven he craves naturally.

  24. The dog park is a great place for you and your dog to spend time together. It's a place where you can go to have fun and play or just spend some time enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery. Going to the park should be a positive experience for both of you, so here are some tips on how to enjoy the dog park with your dog.

The first thing that you want to do is look for a park designed for dogs and not a regular park. There is a big difference between the two. A regular park is where kids of all ages go to swing, slide and socialize with other kids. Most of these don't allow pets in the main area and they must be restrained at all times if they are allowed anywhere in the park. A dog park is made especially for dogs and they're allowed to run free and exercise in a controlled environment.

How to Prepare for a Day in the Park with Your Dog

Before going to the dog park, you need to get prepared. First, make sure your dog is up to date on her vaccinations. Not only is it required by most parks, it's for your pet's own safety. In the event she comes in contact with a sick dog, she should be protected.

If your dog is not very sociable, take steps to socialize him before going to the park. It's also a good idea to consider obedient training if he doesn't listen to you very well. He should know and obey all the basic commands such as sit, stay, come and so forth. This will make the trip to the dog park more fun and enjoyable for everyone.

Know how your dog plays with other dogs so if things were to start to get out of hand, you'll be aware of the problem immediately. You need to know when she is just playing and when she is becoming aggressive. This way, you can intervene quickly if things start to get out of control.

    What to Take with You

When preparing for the trip to the park, take along a few essential items. You'll need to walk your dog from the car to the entrance of the park so a good, secure way to restrain him is necessary. It's also good to have in case your pet has an altercation with another dog and you need to restrain him until you can get him out of the situation.

Take along water and one toy for your dog to play with inside the park. You can also bring food and treats if you plan a long visit but keep these out of the park. This is something dogs are very possessive over and it could easily start a fight.

Take bags and a scooper for your pet's waste. You do have to clean up after your own dog or the parks would become a mess. It's also a good idea to have a blanket or old towel that you can use to wipe your dog down or put in the seat if she ends up getting wet or muddy.

    How Long Should You Stay

When visiting the park for the first time, keep your visit short. About fifteen or twenty minutes is long enough. You can increase this time by five minutes or so each time you go. The best time to go to the park on your first few visits is when it's mostly deserted. This way, he can get used to it without being overwhelmed with lots of strange dogs.

Always watch your pet and never get distracted by someone else talking to you or phone calls. As soon as you enter the park, take off the restraint but keep it handy just in case. Practice proper etiquette and be considerate of everyone else and their pets. Use these tips and you can enjoy the dog park with your dog every time you go.

The next time you take your pooch to the dog park, try out one of these dog harnesses or custom leashes from Doggie Clothesline.

  25. Dogs make wonderful companions. They are always there for you when you need a friend. They will sit with you when you don't feel good, cheer you up when you're sad and play anytime you're in the mood. They always show you unconditional love and they never complain about anything you do. Since your four-legged friend is always there for you, why not create a special place for your dog in your home to show him how special he is to you.

While your dog may seem happy lying on the couch or even in the floor beside of you, she would be much happier with her own special place. Dogs, like humans, need some alone time. They need somewhere they can go to rest peacefully, where no one will bother them. This is even more important when you have children that tend to keep your pet busy.

Choose a location in your home that is secluded but that's easily accessible. It can be a corner in your living room, den or even your bedroom. It really doesn't matter where you choose as long as it's easy to get to, has enough room and is in one of the least active areas of your home. If people are constantly running by, he won't feel as secluded and won't be able to rest as well.

Once you choose a spot, start fixing it up for your dog like you would your own special room in the home. Choose a bed that suits his personality and place it in his spot. There are many to choose from with beautiful designs that will go perfectly with all types of décor. This makes it easy to find something that will blend in instead of looking awkward and out of place.

Buy a mat to go next to her bed to put her food and water bowls on so she won't have to travel far when she needs something to drink. A mat is not necessary but it will help to keep her special place a little cleaner in case she spills water or drops food. If you want to go all out, you can buy personalized bowls and mats that have your pet's picture on them or other designs to help dress the area up a little.

Have a place on the other side of his bed where you can put his chew bone and other toys. This will help keep them from being scattered all over the house and it will help him to understand that this is his place. Creating a special place for your dog inside your home is a great way to show your appreciation for all the things he gives you every day.

  26. If you're planning a vacation or trip with your dog, there are some things to know first. Traveling with your dog does not have to be a difficult challenge but it definitely helps to plan ahead. First, you need to know where you are going, how far the trip is and how long you will be there. Next, you need to know how you will travel. Will you drive or fly? Are you considering a train or other form of transportation?

For many people, their pets are like part of the family. Unfortunately, not everyone sees them this way and there are some places where dogs are not allowed (unless he's a service animal). So you need to ensure you have a hotel that will allow your dog to stay with you. If you're flying, you must check with the airlines first to see if they allow pets and what arrangements are made for their travel.

Many dog owners just love to drive with their beloved canine in the seat next to them. Many dogs actually grow very accustomed to traveling in vehicles, even for long distances and will sit quietly and calm during the travel. You can help train your dog to enjoy car rides by taking him for them when possible, starting with smaller, short trips until he becomes used to it and enjoys the ride. Offer lots of praise and treats and show her you are proud of her.

Here are some additional tips for traveling with your dog:

    · Make sure you pack supplies and any prescription meds, the food your dog normally eats at home, etc.

    · Give your dog a lot of exercise before the trip and whenever possible, let her out for regular stretches while traveling.

    · Plan ahead to have dog-friendly accommodations.

    · When driving with your dog, use a travel crate. This is the safest option and it's like a child car seat, which absorbs the impact in the event of an accident.

    · Have an identification tag on your dog and his crate in case they become separated or your dog gets lost in a strange place.

    · Don't feed immediately before the trip as some dogs get motion sickness.

Traveling with your dog can be a pleasant experience for you both, especially when you take the time to plan accordingly. What are some of your tips for traveling with your dog?

  27. Does he faithfully sit by your side when you're watching the game? Do you take him with you to pre-game parties or to local games? If you answered yes to these questions, then it's time to reward your pet for his part in helping you support your favorite sports teams. You can do this with sweatshirts and jerseys with your team's logo on them just like the ones you wear.

There's Something for All Sports Fans

It doesn't matter if you're a dedicated NFL fan, MLB fan or if you simply love college sports, it's easy to find something with your team's colors or logo on it. This makes it easy to show your support for your team through your clothes. The same is true when it comes to your dog.

You can find jerseys, tee shirts, tank tops, sweatshirts and more for your four-legged sports fan just like the ones you find for yourself. While you might have a wider selection of clothes to fit small breeds, you can find some clothing to fit larger breeds, too.

    It's a Great Attention Getter

If you enjoy getting attention, put a sports logo jersey on your pet and see how much attention you both receive. When people see dogs dressed in clothing, it usually makes them smile and conversations seem to start up naturally. When the outfit she's wearing has your team's logo on it, you'll have a chance to brag a little and talk about how great your team's doing this season.

    Accessorize

If your dog doesn't like wearing clothes or if you think it's a bit much, accessorize instead. If you do think it's a great idea, it's important to understand that some dogs don't have any interest in wearing clothes and you don't want to stress out your pet by dressing him up if he doesn't like it. However, that doesn't mean he can't still show off his love for sports alongside of you.

For example, she can wear team spirit hair bows or both male and female dogs can wear bandanas and hats made especially for pets. You can also buy leashes and collars with sports team logos on them, which gives you another option for pets who don't like wearing clothes. You'll need these things when you take her for walks, so why not choose ones that show off your dog's team spirit.

    It's a Lot of Fun

Your dog is your most faithful companion and he always roots for your team. Why not let him help you cheer on your sports team in a unique way that gets lots of attention. Dressing your pet is fun, entertaining and you can both wear your outfits everywhere you go. You don't have to wait for game night to support your team.

You can wear your matching outfits when you go for a walk around the block, to the park or when visiting friends. On top of that, it's a fun way to include your pet in something that you enjoy. It'll make her feel special and she'll most likely love the attention the clothes and accessories bring her.

  28. Training your dog to let you know when she needs to go outside can be a tough job. You have to pay close attention to your pet and if she starts sniffing around for a place to go, you have to drop what you're doing and take her out immediately or it may be too late. She don't mean to mess up your floors and leave you a mess to clean but she just don't understand how to let you know she needs out and this can be very frustrating.

The problem is communication. You need a way for him to let you know when he needs to go potty and that is what the new potty training tool called Poochie-Bells can do. They help you and your pet communicate with each other in a way that is simple and efficient.

    What are Poochie-Bells

Poochie-Bells are a simple tool designed with a piece of durable ribbon and two sets of custom silver bells made from heavy-duty metal. The bells are located at the bottom and around the middle of the ribbon and they're attached in such a way that they won't pull off and pose a choking hazard for your pup.

All you have to do is snap the ribbon in place around the doorknob or on a hook beside the door you want your dog to use. Once it's secure, you're ready to start training your dog with this safe and effective tool.

How to Train Your Dog with Poochie-Bells

Training your dog to use Poochie-Bells is very easy. At first, you'll need to continue to take your pup outside regularly when you think she needs to go but you'll need to add another step to your routine. Before you take her out, ring the bells and say a simple phrase to help her make the connection between the bells and going outside.

You can say anything as long as it's simple such as "Ring the bells for Out". Be sure to ring the bells and say the phrase every time you let your pet go out to play, use the bathroom or when you take him for a walk.

After a few weeks when you're ready to take her outside, just say the phrase "Ring the bells for Out" and point to them. When your pet rings the bell, say something simple like "good girl" and let her out. If she doesn't ring the bells, do it for her while saying your phrase and then let her out. Eventually, she should understand to rub against or paw at the bells to make them ring when she wants to go outside.

    Training Tips

The key to using Poochie-bells is repetition. You need to use the same door, ring the bells and say the same phrase every time you take your pup out. Everyone that cares for the dog should follow the same rules to avoid confusion.

Talk directly to your pet when saying the phrase and allow him to see you ring the bells. By repeating this every time you take your pet out you are creating a pattern that he'll associate with going outside. Over time, he'll learn that he gets to go out when the bells ring.

Only offer a few words of praise for your dog when she gets it right. Going outside is the reward for ringing the bells. If you offer her a treat or too much attention, she might start ringing the bells every time she wants a snack or a belly rub.

The great thing about this method is that you can train any dog regardless of age, so it's not just for puppies. It helps to take the guesswork out of training your dog to go out and it's so easy to do. Poochie-Bells are inexpensive and have a very high success rate. The simplicity in the design makes it easy for pets to learn what to do when they need to go outside.

Doggie Clothesline has a wide selection of Poochie-Bells to choose from to help you train your pet how to let you know when he needs outside.

  34. Summer is almost here and it's time to shop for some new summer clothes for both you and your pup. Dressing your pet up in clothes is a lot of fun and it's a great way to show off his unique personality. However, dressing your pet up in dog clothes is not just for fun. They can also help to protect your pet and keep him healthy.

Did you know that dogs could get skin cancer just like humans if they spend too much time in the sun especially if they have short hair? Shirts and dresses will help to protect your pet's skin from the harmful UV rays that cause cancer. Your pet can also burn her feet when you take her for walks but specially designed dog socks and shoes can help protect her feet from hot pavement so she can enjoy her walks even more.

When buying summer dog clothes you have several different outfits to choose from. Some of the best options include lovely summer dresses for her and stylish T-Shirts and tanks for him. When buying doggie clothes for your pup there are a couple of things that you need to keep in mind that will ensure he stays cool and comfortable.

How Hot Does It Get In Your Area?

The weather in your area plays a major role in what type of summer clothes you need to buy for your pet. If you live in an area that is very hot and humid, you have to be careful what you put on your dog or you could make her very uncomfortable. It's extremely important that you don't let your pet get too hot because it can put her health in jeopardy. If she gets too hot, it can become difficult for her to breathe and she may even suffer from heat exhaustion.

If the clothing is too hot, it can cause your dog to sweat. Sweating can cause his skin to become irritated and it will make him very uncomfortable. He may also start scratching and digging at the outfits if they're too hot, which can irritate his skin even more.

    Choose the Material Carefully

When buying dog clothes for your pup, pay close attention to the type of material they're made from. Some types of materials look thin and you might think they would be cool when in reality they're very hot. A lot will depend on whether or not the garment is made from breathable material. You need something that will let the air circulate through the garment while protecting your pup from the sun.

Even though dressing your dog up in cute clothing is a lot of fun, always put her safety first and make sure the clothing that you choose is suitable for the climate in your area. On extra hot days, it would be best for your pup if you keep her indoors for the most part and give her a break from wearing clothing for awhile. These tips for buying summer dog clothes for your pup can help you find the best outfits to keep her comfortable and stylish all summer long.

Doggie Clothesline has a great selection of dog clothes that will help to keep your pet comfortable and stylish all summer.

  35. Pet owners are always looking for new ways to make their tiny dogs happy and comfortable. Like humans, dogs like to have their own things that make them feel special. Does your pet like to hide in towels, clothing or under covers? Most little dogs do. It makes them feel safe and secure the way they should feel. Since tiny dogs like to cuddle up in something soft, the fleece dog sleeping bags or blankets make the perfect accessory.

Fleece dog sleeping bags are made especially for small breed dogs. They are soft, cuddly blankets that are sewn together on three sides to make a sleeping bag. Your pet can crawl up in the bag and completely hide out until he is ready to come out and play.

Benefits of the Fleece Dog Sleeping Bags

These sleeping bags have many benefits for your pet. When you give her a fleece blanket, she won't try to get on the furniture to curl up, which is much safer for her. Many little dogs are injured when they jump off chairs and sofas because the impact jars their body. When she has a fleece blanket to craw up in, it helps to keep her safer and healthier. You won't find her sleeping in your laundry anymore, either because she'll have her own special place to cuddle.

They're lightweight and easy to store so they're perfect for traveling. You won't have to worry about where your pup will sleep. Just pull out his sleeping bag and he can crawl up in the blanket anytime he needs to rest.

Fleece dog sleeping bags are also durable and easy to clean. All you have to do is toss it in the washing machine and it's just like new. You can find them in a variety of colors so there should be something that goes great with any décor. They make excellent gifts, too. Anyone would love to get one of these as a gift for their tiny dog.

They're More Than Just an Accessory

The fleece dog sleeping bag is more than just an accessory. They help make your pet feel safe and secure because it's her own special place. They're so soft and comfortable that she'll be completely relaxed all curled up inside of one to rest. When she's ready to sleep, she won't have to look for a place. She'll know exactly where to go.

These fleece blankets help to keep him warm, too. Tiny dogs get colder than other dogs do so they like to have a warm, soft place to go. They can even be cold in the middle of the summer depending on how cool you keep your home. You'll often see them shaking and shivering even when you don't think it's cool.

When you're searching for a great way to show your tiny dog how much you care, give her a fleece dog sleeping bag. You'll love it as much as she does when you see how happy it makes her. You can even pick up two or three and have them in different locations in your home so she will have one no matter which room she's in.

Doggie Clothesline has a great selection of fleece dog sleeping bags that are the perfect place for tiny dogs to rest.

  36. When you talk about weddings, many people automatically think of the bride but this is a big day for the groom, too. In fact, it's one of the most significant days in your life. For this reason, you want it to be special and stand out in every way. So, why not mix up your wedding with a puppy ring bearer. Not only will this add to the excitement but it's also a great way to include your four-legged friend in one of the biggest days of your life.

The ring bearer has a very important role in your wedding but it's a small enough part that it's easy to train your pup to do it. All he has to do it walk straight down the aisle and then sit or lay down at your feet so you can retrieve the rings. Just imagine how amazed all of your friends and family will be to see your pet participating in your wedding ceremony.

Two Ways to Carry the Rings

There are two ways for your puppy to carry the rings down the aisle. If your pup is calm, well trained and don't mind having things on his back, you can use a pillow for the rings just like the ones used in traditional weddings but designed especially for dogs. These will strap to your pet to keep it from falling off as he walks towards you.

The second way is to attach the rings to your pet's collar. This is great for those dogs that don't particularly like anything riding on their backs. If you choose this method, you can buy him a special collar that matches your tuxedo so he will fit in perfectly, which brings us to another good point. When your dog is your ring bearer, he needs to dress for the part.

Doggie Wedding Attire for Your Pup

Including your dog in your wedding is a growing trend that gets more popular every year. For this reason, designers are making more wedding attire for dogs. Traditionally, the ring bearer will wear a tuxedo and your puppy can follow that tradition, too.

There are many tuxedos available for your pet that will compliment your tux perfectly. You can choose the traditional black and white attire or choose a pinstripe or plaid design. You can also find doggie wedding attire in silver, taupe and even Leopard print. You can add bow ties and doggie cuffs to set off the tux even more.

If dressing your puppy in attire is not an option, don't worry. You can try a tuxedo scarf, a simple necktie or a beautifully designed collar. Either one of these will allow him to be comfortable while still being dressed for the occasion.

While having your puppy as your ring bearer is a great idea and something that will truly make your wedding memorable, keep in mind that even the best-behaved pets can be unpredictable. He may decide he does not want to walk down the aisle in front of all those people or he may get restless during the ceremony. For this reason, you need to have a back-up plan and someone to remove your pet to an area where he will be more comfortable if necessary.

Doggie Clothesline offers a great selection of dog formal wear and accessories for your special wedding day.

You can choose a plain sundress or halter dress in a color that matches the other bridesmaid's dresses. If you want to brighten things up a bit, you can add a few accessories to create sparkle.

If weaning an outfit is not an option, you can always dress your pup in lacy hair bows or choose a crystal or a Pearl Necklace instead of clothing. Dog wedding accessories allow you to dress her up without making her uncomfortable. 38. Do you live a very active life? Is hiking and boating some of your favorite activities? Does your dog like to tag along with you? If you answered yes to these questions, then you need outdoor dog gear for your active pet. Taking your pet along for these activities is a lot of fun.

Dogs can be very entertaining and doing these things together can help build that bond between you and your pet. Here are a couple of items that can help keep your pet safer and make your trips more enjoyable.

    Life Jackets

If you spend a lot of time around water, get your dog a life jacket. Dog life jackets are perfect for pets that enjoy riding along on the boat or playing in the ocean. The life jacket will help keep him safe anytime he's in and around water.

Not all dogs are great swimmers, especially in rough waters. If you take your dog with you fishing, boating or to the beach, you won't have to worry about her struggling in the water especially if the currents are strong. Anytime you're around water, there is the possibility of an accident. For example, your pet could fall off the boat or be swept away by a strong current. A life jacket will help keep her afloat in any situation whether she's just having fun or if an emergency occurs.

Life jackets are perfect for elderly dogs or those with arthritis or joint problems. Swimming can help dogs get the exercise they need without putting added stress on their joints and a life jacket will make it easier for him to swim.

There are several different types of dog life jackets available suited for different breeds and types of water. Some are made with mesh under the belly so the water will drain quickly and the life jacket will dry faster. Some are designed with reflective strips to make your pet more visible and others have added buoyancy for rough water like what you'll find at the beach.

    Dog Backpacks

Outdoor dog gear also includes dog backpacks. These are great for hikers, hunters, campers and they even come in handy for a trip to the park. Your dog needs supplies just like you do. She'll need food, water, treats and toys so why not let her carry her own supplies. The extra space will make things a lot easier for you.

The saddlebag design distributes the weight evenly so it won't put too much weight on your pet's back. This makes them more comfortable and prevents strains. They have storage pouches where you can keep things separated so you can find what you need fast and easy. Most all dog backpacks have adjustable straps for a snug fit and reflective trim to keep him safer.

Most dogs don't mind wearing a backpack. They can sense they're doing something good and it makes them feel needed. However, you may need to go on short trips at first until he gets used to it. Outdoor dog gear makes it easier for your active pet to get the exercise needed to stay healthy, fit and safe.

Doggie Clothesline has a wide variety of outdoor dog gear for any size dog.

  39. Dogs, just like humans, want a soft comfortable place to lie down and stretch out when it's time to rest. Choosing the best dog bed for your pet will ensure he is happy and comfortable. Dogs can lay on sofas, chairs and even your bed but jumping up and down on furniture is not good for your pet. In addition, when your pet has his own private bed it'll give him a sense of security, provided you choose the right one for your pet.

Here are five things to look for that will help you choose the best dog bed for your pet:

    1. Size- It's important to choose a size that suits your pet. The bed should be large enough for her to stretch out comfortably, yet small enough to make her feel secure. If you're buying for a puppy, look for a bed that will fit her once she is full-grown.

    2. Style- The style is also very important. When choosing a style, observe your pet's sleeping habits before you shop. Some dogs curl up in a ball, some sleep on their backs and some like to hang their heads off the edge. Knowing how your dog sleeps will help you choose the style that will be the most comfortable for him. If he sleeps curled up in a ball, a bed with high thick sides would be a good choice. If he stretches out, a flat bed or one with short sides would be the most comfortable.

    3. Special Needs- When your pet is up in age or if she suffers from medical problems like arthritis or hip and joint pain, a low bed that's easy to get in and out of and one with a thick cushion would be a good choice. You can buy a special orthopedic dog bed with memory foam for the ultimate in comfort for your elderly dog.

    4. Durably- Look for dog beds made from strong, durable fabric so it will last longer. If you have a dog that likes to chew or dig into the cushion with his claws, you need a strong material that will hold up to this type of abuse. Otherwise, it may be in pieces within a few short weeks.

    5. Cleaning Options- It's important to keep your dog's bed clean and fresh and this will be difficult to do unless you choose a fabric that's easy to clean. Look for dog beds that are machine washable or that has covers that are machine washable and it'll be easier to keep them clean. If your dog sleeps outside, look for ones made from material that you spray off with the water hose. You can usually scrub these with a mild soap and rinse for easy cleaning.

All dogs are different with unique personalities that set them apart just like humans. It's one of the reasons why they make such great pets. Dogs are very sensitive animals that love having their own special place and you can give her that with her very own doggie bed. Choosing the best dog bed for your pet will help ensure she is happy and comfortable.

Doggie Clothesline has a great selection of dog beds designed for small and large dogs.

  40. Dog clothing is more popular than ever before. Dressing your pup in clothes is a cute and fun way to show off his personality but outfits serve a practical purpose, too. They help to protect your dog from the elements by keeping him warmer, dryer and by providing protection from the sun. Whatever your reason for buying your pet clothes, you can get more for your money when you know how to shop smart.

Apply some of the same rules you use when shopping for yourself or for your kids when shopping for doggie clothes. This will help you make smart decisions so you'll actually put the items that you buy on your dog instead of in a drawer.

Here are a few dog clothing shopping tips that will help you shop smart:

    · If you don't think she will be comfortable or happy wearing that ruffled dress, then don't buy it just because you think it's its adorable.

    · Look for outfits that suit his personality. If he sits beside you during sports, a jersey with your team's logo on it would be perfect.

    · Buy clothing based on where you live. You don't need a thick wool sweater if you live in Texas where the winters are mild. If you live in an area where it rains a lot, you can stock up on raincoats and boots but if not, does she really need three sets of each.

    · Clothing with buttons and zippers are not good for everyday use. If it's for a special occasion and for a short period during which time you'll be watching him, they're fine. Otherwise, the dog clothes held together by Velcro is a much better buy because they are safer for your pet.

    · Be sure and buy the right size clothing. Your dog needs clothes that will fit and just like most people, she can lose or gain weight frequently. Therefore, make sure you measure your dog occasionally so you can check the sizes and buy clothing that fit perfectly.

    · Consider the quality of the clothing before you buy. It's better to pay a little extra for a quality outfit than it is to save a few bucks on poor quality. It'll last much longer and be safer for your pet because it won't rip and tear as easily.

    · Check out sale items. When you buy on sale, you can often find many quality items for amazing prices.

Remember, just because something is on sale doesn't mean that it's a poor quality item. There are many reasons why stores put products on sale including the end of a season. It's a great opportunity for you to buy wonderful quality outfits for your dog at very affordable prices.

If your dog doesn't like wearing clothes, don't worry. You can still make your pet stand out without making him or her uncomfortable by using accessories. For example, you can buy bandanas, hair bows, bells or little bowties designed just for dogs of all sizes. You can also accessorize and show off your pet's personality through designer collars, harnesses and leashes.

Doggie Clothesline has an extensive assortment of dog clothes for any size dog.

  41. Running with your dog for exercise is lots of fun and it doesn’t feel like a workout. Exercise is great for your body and overall health. It relieves stress, gives you more energy and helps you maintain a healthy weight. Running is a great form of exercise but it can be a bit boring at times. That’s one of the reasons why taking your dog with you when you run is such a good idea.

Your dog needs exercise, too and running is good for him. It builds muscles, helps him burn off some of that extra energy and it helps keep him from becoming overweight. The result is a much calmer, happier dog.

When running with your pet you do need to consider her safety first. Never push or allow your pet to run more than she can handle. This will have a lot to do with the breed and size of your pet. Small breed dogs can’t run as fast or as long as large breed dogs. Therefore, you need to plan your workout on what your pet can do without pushing her too hard.

The next thing to consider is the type of gear your pet needs to keep him from running off when he sees something interesting. You need him close by your side for his protection. Choose a leash that is strong enough to handle your pet and one of good quality. This way, if he does try to leave you behind, you won’t have to worry about it breaking or coming unhooked and putting your pet in danger.

The next decision is what to hook the leash too. When running, it’s best to use a harness instead of a collar. Collars put all of the pressure around your pet’s neck when she struggles and this can choke and injure your dog.

Harnesses are designed to distribute the pressure around your pet’s body when he struggles against the leash. This greatly reduces the risk of injuring your pet. They give your dog a lot more support and dog harnesses come in all types of styles, colors and sizes making it easy to find something to suit your pet perfectly.

Make sure you have the proper gear, too such as running shoes and comfortable clothing. Stay hydrated and avoid running during the hottest part of the day. Running with your dog for exercise is fun and beneficial for both of you.

  42. The cold brisk days of winter are slowly becoming a thing of the past as the warm spring air moves in. It's time to ditch those winter coats and long sleeved clothing and change into something more fun and cool but don't forget about picking up some spring dog clothing for your pet, too. It's time for him or her to make the switch to a new spring wardrobe that will keep your pet in style while keeping them cool and comfortable.

Traditionally, spring colors are bright and colorful to create a carefree, happy feeling. This goes along with the mood that many people have after a long cold winter. Some of the most common colors are medium to light shades of yellow, pink, blue, green, red and purple.

    Dog Clothing Options

There are several different options available in doggie clothing so it's easy to find something that suits your pet's personality and size. Here are a few suggestions to get you started.

Consider tank tops, skirts and beautiful sundresses for your furry female friend. These items come in many colors and patterns that will leave your little princess and you feeling proud from all of the compliments and extra attention she'll receive. You can choose a solid color that will compliment her fur or a fun pattern that shows off her personality.

Your little man can get in on some of fashion fun, too. There are many stylish spring outfit options available for boys. For example, he'll look handsome in tees or vests designed in solid colors or soft prints that will liven up his overall appearance without being overwhelming. If you prefer, you can choose a more laid back and relaxed look and pick up some doggie clothing with funny graphics or bold patterns. You can also find a variety of tank tops to suit his individual style.

    Things to Remember

Since the mornings and late evenings can still be chilly this time of year, it's a good idea for your pet to dress in layers. A t-shirt or simple dress with a thin jacket would make a good outfit. This way, your pet can shed the jacket when it warms up and still be comfortable and stylish.

You should always measure your pet before purchasing any dog clothes. Just like us, they can gain or lose weight from time to time. This way, you can make sure the clothing they already have still fits perfectly and that anything new you buy will fit properly.

When you're searching for a way to set off that new spring outfit there are a number of accessories available that will do the trick. These will add that special touch without going overboard. You can add a pretty flower or hair bow to your girls outfit to create a bit of pizzazz or add a touch of class to your boy's wardrobe with a necktie or bow tie.

Accessories also include collars and leashes. You can find an assortment of these that come in different colors and design that will match your pet's spring dog clothing wardrobe perfectly.

Check out Doggie Clothesline for a great variety of spring dog clothing, accessories and more.

  43. Many dog owners enjoy taking their pet with them when they travel but it can sometimes be difficult to get them to stay in one place. They get excited to go riding and they usually move all over the vehicle. If they distract you from driving or jump in the driver's seat with you, it can cause you to have an accident making this a very dangerous situation for everyone in the vehicle and for other drivers.

Another problem that some pet owners encounter is a seat full of dog hair, slobber and dirt. This can be a mess to clean but travel and clean up is made easy when you have the right products for your dog. Some products are made to keep your pet safe and some are designed to keep your vehicle clean.

Products to Keep your Pet Safe

When traveling with your dog, it's important to keep him safe. You don't want him walking around inside the car because if you swerve or hit the brakes too hard, it can throw him around into the sides of the car or into the floorboard. Your pet can be injured this way but you can keep him safe by using a dog car seat or a dog car harness.

The car seats and booster seats put your small pup up high where she can see out of the window while keeping her secure and safe. They come in different sizes to suit different small breeds and they are soft and comfortable for your pet. The covers can be removed, washed and replaced easily. They are the perfect car accessory for small dogs.

The dog car harness works great for both small and large pets. There are different styles to choose from so you can look for the one that suits your pet the best. Dog car harnesses are easy to use with quick-release buckles and adjustable straps. They're durable, comfortable and they provide great protection for your four-legged friend.

Products to Keep Your Vehicle Clean

Keeping your pet safe is your first priority but once you choose the best method to keep him safe, you can protect your vehicle with a car seat cover make for pets. You can choose between the bucket-seat style and the bench style depending on what type of vehicle you have. Some styles are waterproof and others are made out of a soft quilted fabric. They are easy to put in and remove for cleaning.

If you have an SUV, Jeep or any other vehicle with a rear cargo area, you can choose one of the mats designed specifically for cargo spaces. If you prefer, you can opt for a portable dog crate that will keep your pet secure and your vehicle clean.

Buying travel supplies for your dog will help keep her safe and happy when riding and make traveling with your pet more enjoyable for both of you. She will be safe and secure and your vehicle will stay clean. After choosing the best traveling products to suit your pet, you're ready to take that vacation or drive to the park.

Check out Doggie Clothesline for a great variety of dog travel supplies for pets on the go.

  44. Dog accessories come in many different forms, shapes and sizes and they're used for different purposes. Some accessories make taking care of your pet easier, some help to keep him comfortable and others are created just for fun. Regardless of what type of accessory you buy, it's important to put safety first. Here are a few tips for buying accessories for your dog that can help you make good choices for your pet.

    Collars, Leashes and Harnesses

Collars and leashes are two items that help to keep your pet safe when playing in the park or walking around the block. Look for lightweight, delicate collars when buying for small breeds. Large bulky collars can make your pet very uncomfortable and the weight can strain her neck muscles.

If your pet pulls and fights against the collar, you may want to consider a harness instead. These will put less stress on your pet's neck and prevent him from hurting himself when he struggles. All collars and harnesses need to fit snug but not too tight. You should be able to get two fingers between the collar and your pet for a good fit.

    Dog Carrier Bags and Slings

Dog carrier bags and slings are fashionable and functional. They make it easier for you to take your small dog with you everywhere you go but you do need to consider your pet's special needs when choosing one. For example, dog slings usually work great for calm dogs but if she has a tendency of squirming around and trying to jump out of your arms, you don't want to put her in one of these.

A dog carrier bag would be a better choice. Your pet can see out and look around but she can't get out until you open the door for her, which will keep her safe. The carrier bag should be well ventilated and suited for her size and weight.

    Clothing

Clothing is one of those accessories used to make a fashion statement but they can also help keep your pet warm and comfortable in the cold months. When buying clothing, look for items made from breathable materials and outfits that are suited for the season. This will help prevent your pet from getting too hot and sweating.

Before buying clothes for your pet, check his measurements to ensure the right fit. If the outfit is too tight, it can restrict your pet's movement and hinder breathing. If the clothing is too loose, it can get caught on obstacles or tangle up around your dog's feet causing him to fall. They can also shift around your pet's neck and pose a choking hazard.

Dog accessories can help you take better care of your pet and many of them can be a lot of fun. Dog beds are an accessory that gives your pet her own special place to sleep and you can use hair bows or bow ties to add that special touch to any outfit. When buying accessories for your dog, keep safety in mind and you can find the perfect items for your pet.

Check out Doggie Clothesline for a great variety of dog clothing and puppy apparel. Your pup could be the next fashion trendsetter.

  45. Many pet owners enjoy taken their pets with them everywhere from the local park to the busy streets of downtown. You have probably seen them sticking their heads out of tote bags and dog carriers of all shapes and sizes. Dogs make wonderful travel companions but small dogs get tired very easily. They cannot always keep up especially if you're very active.

Their little legs get tired fast and they need to rest often, which means you'll need to carry them around a lot while you're out. This can be exhausting and uncomfortable for you if you try to carry them around in your arms. This is why you see so many pet owners with bags and carries designed especially for their little dog. This wonderful invention makes it simple and easy to carry your pet around with you everywhere you go.

Here are some more ways tote bags and dog carriers for your pup can be beneficial:

    · Your little dog can rest his legs when he gets tired so trips won't wear him out so much.

    · It can keep her safe when you're in a crowed area by keeping her out from under people's feet where she could be stepped on.

    · They are very comfortable for your pet and most dogs love them.

    · It's an easier and more comfortable way of carrying your pet.

    · They help to keep young dogs from trying to run off and exploring dangerous areas.

    · It's perfect for older dogs with arthritis and other medical conditions that find it difficult to get around.

    · It leaves your hands free so you can open doors and do all of the other things you need to do.

Tote bags and dog carriers are not only beneficial but they're very stylish and practical, too. They are roomy enough for your pet to curl up and take a nap or if they want to see what's going on, they can stick their heads out and look around.

There are different styles and sizes to choose from so finding just the right size for your pet is easy. To ensure you get the right size for your pet so he will be comfortable, take your pet's measurements before you shop for one.

The sling-style dog carries are one of the most popular styles because of their unique design. These loop over one shoulder and hang down around your waist where your pet can sit comfortably. Some of the totes look similar to large oversized handbags or purses that women carry but these are made especially for dogs. If you didn't see the dog sticking his head out of the bag, no one would know the difference.

You want to capture her personality with the styles you choose but more importantly, you want to make sure she is safe.

Size is the number one thing that you need to consider when buying dog dresses or any other outfit for your pet. If it's too big, she could get her legs caught in it or it could wrap around her neck. If it's too small, it's going to cut into her skin and it can cut off circulation. Measure her and then match the clothing that you buy up with her measurements to ensure you get the right size.

The material is also something you need to look at closely. Dresses that she will be wearing regularly should be made from material that allows the skin to breath. You'll also get more use from clothing made from material that you can throw in the laundry and wash.

  47. Are you ready to take a closer look at harnesses for your pup instead of the traditional collar you may be using? Harnesses have many great features that make them a good choice. But, there are a few things you need to consider before making a purchase. You want to make sure the harness you buy is the right one for your pet.

Harnesses come in a variety of sizes, styles, colors and materials. This makes it easy to find one that will fit your pup the best while choosing something that suits his personality perfectly. Mesh is a popular material because it's soft, comfortable and it allows your pet's skin to breath. Other good choices include cotton, silk, suede and fleece.

    Decide Which Type to Use

The three main types of harnesses are the step in harness, vest harness and the car seat harness. You can use either the step in harness or the vest harness when walking your pet while the car seat harness is similar to a seat belt. These keep your pet safe when traveling. Out of these three, you have several different designs to choose from.

Decide which type of harness you want to use and which design would suit your pet the best. If you're not sure, research the different types to see what features make them stand out the most. This will help you determine which style is best suited for your pup.

When choosing which type to use, consider your pet's temperament and size as well as the primary function of the harness. If he tends to pull away when on a leash, a mesh or padded harness would keep from rubbing her skin during the struggle. If she has sensitive skin or if she will be wearing the harness often, then look for a soft material that won't irritate the skin.

Once you decide which type to use, set a budget and begin looking for harnesses within your price range since they do vary considerably in price. Whichever type you choose, it should be adjustable, easy to use and have secure buckles to prevent it from unhooking. Look for a strong material that is also machine washable and it will last much longer.

    Choose the Right Fit

It's vital that you choose the right fit when buying a harness for your pet. It needs to be snug against his body but not so tight that it's constricting. He needs to be able to move around without feeling uncomfortable. When you can easily get two fingers between the harness and your pup, then you have a good fit.

Since you can't try on the harnesses, you'll need to take measurements to find the right size. Measure your pet around the fullest part of her stomach and add about 2 inches for comfort. This is the best way to make sure you have a good fit that keeps your pup safe when walking on a leash. When you use these tips as a guide, choosing harnesses for your pup will be much easier.
